My grandfather fought the Japanese in WW2, was captured, sent to Birma on a boat that got torpedoed by a British submarine and was one of the 500 survivors of the 5600 people on that boat. He died when I was 6 years old. At times I wonder what he’d think of me with my travels to Japan and my interest for the country and its culture.
